The questions we hear most often from new customers.

Is this a rental or a lease?

SHYFT offers rentals with a 30-day minimum. Your signed agreement defines the rental commitment and payment schedule. Extensions require a new signed agreement under the standard 30-day terms, subject to availability; there is no automatic renewal. Tax classification depends on the actual agreement.

How old do I need to be?

The primary driver must be at least 25 years old and present a valid driver license. Additional eligibility and verification requirements are shown during booking and in the rental agreement.

Are taxes included in the advertised rate?

No. Advertised monthly rates are tax-exclusive. Any applicable taxes and approved extras are calculated and shown before you authorize payment.

How can I pay?

Payment is handled securely through Stripe. Bank account payment is preferred; credit cards are also accepted. Cash and debit cards are not accepted.

When is my booking confirmed?

Your booking stays pending until Stripe confirms that payment succeeded. Card payments may confirm quickly. Bank payments can take several business days, and the vehicle is not confirmed until that process finishes successfully.

How do monthly payments work?

Your completed agreement states the payment schedule. Additional rental periods require the applicable signed agreement; recurring bank payments and later credit-card charges require separate authorization. You receive the terms and schedule before agreeing.

Is there a security deposit or card on file?

A separate credit card may be required for a security deposit or authorized incidentals. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe; SHYFT does not store raw card numbers. The amount and applicable terms are shown before authorization.

Can I extend or end my rental?

Contact SHYFT as early as possible. Extensions depend on vehicle availability, payment status, and the rental agreement. Return, cancellation, and notice requirements are governed by the terms you accept for your booking.

Who maintains the vehicles?

SHYFT focuses on proven, practical vehicles and hands-on maintenance. Each listing describes the vehicle you are considering. If a warning light, mechanical concern, or other issue appears during your rental, stop when safety requires it and contact us promptly.

Why does SHYFT use older cars?

A good car should not be disposable just because it is not new. SHYFT selects proven vehicles, maintains them carefully, and keeps them useful longer. Extending the life of cars that have already been built can reduce waste and avoid some of the demand for new-vehicle production, while lower acquisition and overhead costs help keep monthly rates affordable. No vehicle is impact-free, and condition and maintenance matter more than age alone.

Can I borrow disc golf discs with my rental?

Yes. Ask about a complimentary loaner set when you book. Ben is also happy to share public Washington disc golf courses and road-trip ideas; a few favorite camping spots stay off the internet.

What is the 299,999-Mile Challenge?

Some 2004 and 2005 Prius odometers are known to stop displaying beyond 299,999 miles. If the SHYFT Prius reaches that reading during your rental, safely take a parked before photo and a parked 299,999 photo and send both to SHYFT. The qualifying renter receives one free next base-rental month. Taxes and extras are excluded, there is no cash value, and the challenge is never a reason to drive unnecessary miles.
