A Better Way to Plan an Olympic Peninsula Road Trip
Olympic National Park looks compact on a map. It is not. There is no road across the park, and the mountains, rain forest, lakes, and coast are reached through separate corridors. Trying to collect every famous stop in one rushed day usually means seeing most of the peninsula through a windshield.

For a multi-day trip, think in regions. Port Angeles makes a useful base for Hurricane Ridge and Lake Crescent. Forks puts you closer to the Hoh Rain Forest and the Pacific beaches. Splitting nights between the north and west sides can reduce backtracking.
A comfortable outline
Day one: Travel to Port Angeles, explore the waterfront, and visit Hurricane Ridge if the road, weather, and parking cooperate.
Day two: Follow Highway 101 toward Lake Crescent. Choose one or two stops rather than every possible trail, then continue toward Forks.
Day three: Visit the Hoh Rain Forest early or late in the day, when summer entrance lines may be shorter. Pair it with one coastal area only if tides, daylight, and energy allow.
Day four: Return by the southern peninsula through Kalaloch and Lake Quinault, or retrace the northern route and use a ferry crossing.
Before leaving
Check official road and park alerts on the morning you travel. Weather and access can change quickly, and some roads are narrow, gravel, seasonal, or unsuitable for trailers. Summer parking at Hurricane Ridge and the Hoh can fill, with long entrance waits.
